Intention Expands 👨🚀🪂

I think I’ve always acted with intent. When I was young, I specifically did things because I wanted to hear my parents say, “Good job.” In elementary school, I volunteered to help out, because I was seeking praise. (Those library books were sitting straight and organized once I got done with them 😆) But I’m also someone who liked to learn by doing and needed to stay active. I was a “boy on the go” and now I’m a “man on the go.”

I’m still purposeful in my actions, but not for the same reasons. Here are five ways intention shows up in my adult life:
1. I work. It gives me meaning and makes me happy. My friends and colleagues know I like to be around others and work for a common purpose––to help people. I’m lucky because my work is something I choose each day. I went through a lot to get where I am. Now I’m a small business owner that loves what he does. Work is what I do to have purpose and my intention to it has made the business grow.
2. I intentionally live out my purpose by mentoring. Mentorship energizes me because not only do I teach, but I learn. Honestly, if you’re open and aware, you can learn something from every person you come in contact with. Helping the next generation and wanting to see people succeed fuels me.
3. I guard my time. I’ve stopped doing the things that drag on my time. Some are personal choices, like not drinking alcohol. Others are business related, such as paying someone to do the things that eat up time which could otherwise be spent on my strengths. With either experience, I feel I have so much more time to use on things that help others, make me happy, or benefit my family.
4. I establish positive routines. I love to take my son, Levi, to school. We intentionally go early. For one, it’s a military habit. Two, Levi likes the extra time to hang with his friends. Three, while Levi waits for them to arrive, we talk, play chess, and have a no stress to start our day. That sets us both off on the right foot and deepens our connections with each other. As we all know, time moves quickly, but this routine builds long-lasting good memories for both of us.

5. I prioritize my physical, spiritual, and mental health. Compared to 25 years ago, I eat way better and am stronger physically. I go to church regularly and read, listen, and do things that are good for my overall well-being. The “wiser” I get, the more I know how important it is to tend to “how” I live my life.
Conclusion
My intentional adult decisions positively impact my work, mentoring, use of time, and state of well-being. I have found that intention expands my personal and professional life. By acting with clear purpose and strategic thought, I have grown and evolved for the better. Being intentional has brought me success, but also happiness and fulfillment. And that can be shared.
