Years ago, a buddy of mine sent me of a photo of an astronaut on the moon, a bottle in hand, kicking back with his feet on a cooler, and the Earth on the horizon. He suggested I use it for marketing, and the taglines “Jeff knows space” and “We know space" followed.
If you’ve ever looked up space in the dictionary, you will notice there are many definitions. After reading them all, here are five that show how CEG knows and uses “space.”
1. “An area of business in which a person or an organization operates.”
This is the obvious and most appropriate definition of space in the CRE business. People reach out to us because they need a space for business. As a broker, I help them find the right space that meets their needs, provide guidance on the market and agreements, negotiate with owners, and then get the deal done.
2. “An amount of an area or of a place that is empty or that is available for use.”
If we don’t know about it already, we find that available space for our clients. In this current market, know your ideal space may not be available, so you may need to be realistic with your wish list. We’re here to make available space, unavailable.
3. “A large area of land that has no buildings on it.”
Not only are we in the business of for sale or lease buildings, but we also work with clients on land deals. It’s a hot commodity these days, but if it’s out there, we’ll find it.
4. “A period of time.”
After decades in the CRE business, I know the Twin Cities CRE market. That means CEG has a very good gauge to how much time you have to decide on a deal, and how long it will take to get the deal done.
5. “The region beyond the earth's atmosphere or beyond the solar system.”
Space is boundless, as no one really knows how big it is. I think that way about opportunity. CEG is in the business for making opportunities happen for investors, landlords, and tenants.
Our Brand
So, why do we use an astronaut? Same reason GEICO uses a gecko. It’s a fun way to market, sets them apart from the competition, and is a way to connect to their customers. We feel the same way about our astronaut. And, like brokers, they need to be intelligent, adaptable, work under pressure, and know their stuff. Also, astronauts are adventurous, curious, social, enterprising, and realistic, and that definitely describes me.
Conclusion
Much like a view from space, at CEG, we zoom up when looking at a deal. It allows us to see it from all angles, identify obstacles, know the key players, and keep track of it. We then “safely land” the deal. After all, at CEG, we know space, and we get your deal done.
