Good Neighbor

A blue snow shovel scoops fresh, powdery snow under bright sunlight, causing glittering snowflakes to scatter in the air.

Knowing your home neighbors definitely has benefits, especially after our last big snow. Our neighborhood usually helps each other out if someone is sick, out of town, or doesn’t have a snowblower. Being part of a community fulfills our need for belonging and connecting, whether at home or with a commercial property.

Commercial neighbors who know each other are more likely to refer business, look out for one another, and share information and/or resources. That community atmosphere also reduces vacancies and can even raise property values.

Meeting your commercial neighbors is the first step. Continual interaction with professionalism, respect, and clear communication mixed with friendliness, kindness, and laughter are essential for building trust and creating a strong business community. As I write this, I keep thinking of the jingle written by Barry Manilow in 1971, “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.” That jingle sticks because of its emotional connection and simplicity. Being there as a good neighbor is simple, has its benefits, and is just more fun.
