More Appropriate Greetings

As a veteran and with Memorial Day approaching, it’s time to remind people of the meaning behind the day –– a solemn day of remembrance for American military personnel who died in active service. There are 13 families that are deep in it this year.
Memorial Day began as Decoration Day, a way to honor those who lost their lives defending our country in the Civil War. Over time, it evolved into a remembrance for all those who have fallen in war times. Today, it seems to have morphed into something else entirely. I often hear people say, “Happy Memorial Day,” and “Thank you for your service.” Neither of those apply to the original meaning of the day. We are meant to honor and remember rather than celebrate summer’s beginning.
Here are some alternative and more appropriate greetings for the day:
"Wishing you a meaningful and reflective Memorial Day."
"Honoring our fallen heroes today."
"Remembering and honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice."
"With gratitude, we remember the brave today."
"Thinking of you and your family as we remember our heroes."
"In memory of those who served and sacrificed."
I’m curious to see if I will go the day without hearing or seeing, “Happy Memorial Day.” I, instead, wish all of you a peaceful day of remembrance. 🇺🇸
